VAC Service Technician

Summary:

The basic function of the VAC Service Technician (“VS Tech”) is to provide general tank cleaning services for commercial and residential customers.  VAC services are generally directed toward the wastewater facilities of customer facilities.  The VS Tech will:

  • Respond to service calls at customer locations as directed by DISPATCH
  • Suggestive selling for accessory services and products.
  • Promote service agreements, utilizing customer service training to educate and assist customers in choosing the appropriate service and products for their wastewater needs.
  • Complete all Municipal wastewater manifest documentation and provide excellent customer support to ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations.

Qualifications:

VS Tech must be highly organized, goal oriented, self-starting, and energetic. This individual must be willing to pursue and actually participate in continuing education. This position requires the individual to be aware of and understand the company Core Values and be able to give a general outline if asked by customers or supervisor.

Education:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience:

A minimum of 2-years prior experience is required and direct knowledge and experience servicing Septic and Grease Trap/Interceptors is preferred.

License/Certification:

Must maintain a valid Class C driver’s license with MEDICAL CERTIFICATE.

Must be able to work with inspectors, suppliers and co-worker technicians to get the job done correctly and in the best interest of our customers, while abiding by all applicable codes.

Technology:

VAC Tech must be able to successfully use the most advanced technology items in completing his/her work, including smart phones, tablets and computers. Training is provided for all technology items and VAC Tech must be able to successfully incorporate the training into the completion of assignments.  VAC Tech must be responsible in caring for all technology items provided to him/her for any assignments.

Physical:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Body Positions:

Regularly requires sitting, walking, bending, lifting and digging for prolonged periods of time.

Body Movements: The employee must have a full range of body movements including the use of hands feet and fingers to handle or feel objects and use tools and equipment and must be capable of bending, reaching, crouching, climbing and crawling.

Body Senses: Must have command of all five senses sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus. Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone for long periods of time.

Strength: Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds.

Mental: Must be able to read and write English well enough to read and complete work orders, municipal inspection reports, and manifests, and must be capable of applying sound business judgment to all decisions. Must be able to read and proficiently use a GPS, maps, or other mapping systems used by company.

Working Conditions: This position will require working indoors and outdoors in various climate conditions ranging from very cold with rain to very hot and humid. This could include crawl spaces and confined locations. This position requires proficient use of hand tools including shovels, rakes and probes. The employee will usually have to be in at customer or service production sites on an as need to basis. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Typical workweek is eight (8) to twelve (12) hour workdays five (5) days per week with periodic weekend work, as well as early and/or late weekday meetings with customers and staff personnel as needed. The Service Technician must maintain a close working relationship with other members of the staff.

Accountability: The VAC Service Technician is accountable to a supervisor for all aspects of his/her job.  The VAC Service Technician will also be directed in daily activity by members of the dispatch team.
